This system comprises either a ‘washable swim nappy’ such as the Tots Bots ‘swim nappy’, an absorbent underlayer that is soft and comfortable and worn next to the skin, fastened with Velcro for a snug fit. This is topped by a ‘neoprene outer nappy, such as the Happy Nappy by Splashabout. As a combination, they provide an absorbent under layer and a secure outer layer, giving a snug fit round the legs and waist and preventing any leakages.
A disposable option such as the Huggies Little Swimmer can also be used as an ‘under layer’ BUT should NOT be used on its own with a costume, always with an outer neoprene wrap-type swim nappy on top.
The fit of both of these nappies is important, as they should be snug around waist and tops of the legs and not purchased for the child to grow into!
Preventing leakages is very important, as any accidents will result in pool closures due to the possible risk of ‘Cryptosporidium’, and of Giardia. These are both germs that are secreted through faeces and have to be treated for just in case and the treatment for these can take many hours.

As some of our pools do not have the facility to dispose of used nappies, unless there is a clearly marked nappy bin, please take your used nappies home and do not leave them in an open bin.
